cheater.net (NiceCheats) respects the work of developers and creators. Most of the content here is posted by members, and we remove material that infringes someone’s copyright when we are properly notified. This policy follows the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and we handle similar notices from other countries the same way.

Reporting infringement

If you own the copyright in something posted on cheater.net, or are authorised to act for the owner, send a notice to [email protected] that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. a description of the copyrighted work you believe is infringed;
  3. the exact cheater.net URL of each page containing the material, for example https://cheater.net/mod-name/;
  4. your name, postal address, phone number and email address;
  5. a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  6. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.

Notices that are missing any of these may not be acted on. Signed-in members can also use the Report option on a mod page for quick flags. A formal notice still has to be sent by email.

What happens next

  • We remove or disable access to the material, usually within a few working days.
  • We tell the member who posted it, and send them a copy of the notice with your personal contact details removed where we can.
  • Files hosted on other sites are outside our control. We remove our listing and links, but you may also need to contact the file host directly.

Counter-notices

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or that you had permission, send a counter-notice to [email protected] that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. the material that was removed and the URL where it appeared;
  3. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification;
  4. your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which cheater.net may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.

We forward valid counter-notices to the original complainant. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 working days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the material.

Repeat infringers

Accounts that are the subject of repeated valid notices will be closed.

False claims

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, can make you liable for damages under Section 512(f) of the DMCA. If you are unsure whether something infringes your rights, consider getting legal advice first.

Trademarks

Game names, logos and artwork belong to their owners and are shown only to identify the game a mod is for. For a trademark concern, email [email protected] with the URL and details.
