How Cheater.Net works

Three things it does that a search result cannot.

  1. Filed by the game it is for

Every mod is filed under its game and tagged by genre and mode, so a search narrows to the titles you actually run instead of everything at once.

  2. Rated by the people who ran it

Members who have used a mod vote on whether it got them banned. The result sits on the mod page before the download button, not in a comment thread under it.

  3. Every release kept

Builds are versioned, each with its own changelog and file, and the download page names the host before it hands anything over. All of it free.

Questions

The ones worth answering before you download anything.

Is everything here free?

Yes. Every mod on the site is free to download - there is no paid tier, no key to buy and nothing held back behind one.

Do I need an account?

To download, yes. Browsing, searching and reading a mod page need nothing at all, but the download button itself is for members. Signing up is free and takes about a minute.

Will using a mod get me banned?

Nobody can promise it will not, and anyone who does is guessing. What this site can tell you is what happened to other people: members who have run a mod vote on whether it got them banned, and that result is on the mod page before you download. Treat it as weather rather than as a guarantee.

Where do the files come from?

From the members who publish them. Some builds are hosted here and some sit on the author's own host - the download page says which before it hands anything over, so you always know whose server you are about to visit.

Something here is broken, stolen or malicious. What do I do?

Report it. Every mod page has a report control that goes straight to the moderators with whatever you tell them, and reports are read whether or not you are the author of the thing being copied.

Can I publish my own mod here?

Publishing is open to members with the creator role. Sign-ups are closed at the moment, so ask a moderator directly.
